Now in its sixteenth year with graduates teaching all over the world, Sukha Mukha Yoga has one of the most well regarded and comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training courses in Australia. The course was originally developed by Katie Rose and is now run by Sukha Mukha’s founder and director of teacher training, Idit Hefer Tamir.
Throughout the years, Idit and Katie have maintained their close working relationship and support a beautiful connection to the traditional aspects of yoga and its various lineages.
Katie's lineage is highly influenced by Simon Low and Jivamukti yoga founders Sharon Gannona and David Life.
Idit has studied with all of Katie's teachers and has been greatly influenced by Jasmine Tarkeshi (who returns annually to Australia to teach at Sukha Mukha) and Donna Farhi.
Infusing lineage with spirit and philosophy, students embark on a unique journey when entering the classroom.
Over the past twelve years, Idit has continued to develop and fine-tune the teacher training content, thereby giving students the most thorough and up to date groundings in the practical and theoretical aspects of yoga.
The training is designed to comprehensively explore the philosophy and physiology of yoga as well as the practical aspects of teaching asana, pranayama and meditation. The course is deliberately eclectic in nature providing students with a broad understanding of the many diverse schools and aspects of yoga practice. Students from all yogic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
“One of our strengths is that our course is suitable both for those who know they want to teach at the end of the course and for those who simply want to dive deeper into the yogic teaching and are not yet sure if they wish to teach or not.” Idit
By the end of the course teacher training students will be fully prepared to stand in front of their own class of students and know how to deliver a class well. Students will also be introduced to the many facets of yoga and thereby given the opportunity to understand what it is they are most drawn to and what they would want to learn further and more deeply.
Sukha Mukha’s Yoga Teacher Training has over 250 hours of training allowing for greater depth of knowledge and practical application for students to feel confident to take the next steps towards becoming an inspiring teacher.
Experience the benefits of studying in a small group in our beautiful Forster Yoga Studio, where trainees have the opportunity to build community and are given individual attention – honouring the time old tradition of yoga teacher training. As a graduate yoga teacher students will have the chance to teach a community class on a rotating roster.

Over the Easter long weekend we will cover:
ITS ALL RELATIVE: Yin & yang as a map of relativity. What makes something yin or yang? Where does that occur in the body mind? Where does that occur in nature. microcosm/macrocosm?
ENERGETIC SUPERHIGHWAYS: Learn and map the main meridians of the energy body according to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine)?
THE 5 PHASES: How does energy behave in a way that we might have observed in nature? With 5 element theory we can learn our unique constitution and how we might balance the individual in relation to the seasons.
FASCIA NATION: Within the body map we have many different terrains. Explore muscles, organs, connective tissues, bones, fluids, cells. How these systems come together as a whole body community and which practices nourish which systems.
THE ART OF ATTENTION: Where attention goes Qi flows, how important is the intentionality of our practices - whether we are physically challenged or actively resting.
CRAFTING A CLASS The framework of how to create meaningful sequences by clarifying your unique intention for not only 1 class but all of your classes.
* Please feel welcome to email Maryanne if you have any questions about the format or content of this offering.
“By the time it came to the edge of the Forest the stream had grown up, so that it was almost a river, and, being grown-up, it did not run and jump and sparkle as it used to do when it was younger, but moved more slowly. For it knew now where it was going, and it said to itself, 'There is no hurry. We shall get there some day.'” ? -Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh
Accreditation: Overall 50 hours CPD contact hours that can count towards 350 hours or 500 hours accreditation with Yoga Alliance. To get accreditation you must have done 200 hours of yoga teacher training. The course is open to everyone but only certified yoga teachers can get the certification.
Maryanne first studied at Sukha Mukha with Idit Hefer Tamir and also her teacher Jasmine Tarkeshi. For her Yin studies she has been guided by Sarah Powers and most recently completed some further Yin training through the lense of Embodied Flow. Although Vinyasa is an excellent container to develop body awareness and explore the ways in which we express. It has become a passion in recent years to facilitate the slowing down and turning inward through the longer held postures of Yin yoga. Maryanne believes both are valuable practices that do not need to exist exclusively.
